Miho No Matsubara 3

#mihonomatsubara MIHO NO MATSUBARA THREE

This is the view this century

This is a fan print by Kunisada
note the ships and pines

This may or may not be Miho No Matsubara

This modern map above suggests there's been some land fill or a change in sea level on the western side but note it shows a modern marina close to the location ships are shown in older images?
Note the words Hagoromo. Yes the legend of the celestial being with a feather robe which was the topic of a famous NO robe and various poems and other art.

The tourist industry here dates centuries! It has factors beloved to Japanese and Western tourists!
Great views of Fuji. A traditional legend site. Seafood. Accessibility by land and sea. Parks and beaches. Temples and shrines.

Finally a Kimono with Fuji and since there's pine trees possibly Miho no  Matsubara

The Japanese put Fujiyama on so many things !

Miho no Matsubara One

for our next theme we're be looking at depictions of Miho No Matsubara and Fuji in various mediums of Japanese art.

#Mihonomatsubara #miho #fuji

First a modern photo taken on the eastern ocean side of the Miho cape.

Some maps to see you where this is in relation to other sights and roads and rail.

One of the reasons Miho was and still is a popular Fuji viewing spot was that it wasn't far off the main road to Kyoto and could also be accessed by boat across the bay south of Fuji and with a working port plenty of seafood dining too plus the nearby attractions of Nihondaira and its shrines and temples.

This swordguard is probably a view of Miho no Matsubara .

Nearly every view I've found been it a painting or print shows sailboats and pines.

Next post I'll show you more prints and paintings.

If you have been right clicking or using Google Image search please consider a  PayPal  donation ... my primary non art / research job is only part time and its been a VERY quiet month for other things ... if every one gave just 50C ....

More on Indigo Textiles

More on Indigo textiles #indigo #japan #textiles
Depending on what part of Japan your beloved yukata or kimono  came from
while Indigo is called AI the dye may have came from any of three different plants
Polygonum tinctorium related to the Dyers knotweed once used in Europe or the Indigofera plant domesticated in India or down south in Okinnwa  Strobilanthus cusia the "chinese rain bell" also used in SE Asia.

While used on silk and later cotton the repeated rinsings and redyings when its used on ramie fibers softens the long fibers and makes it ideal for the kasuri technique related to Ikat.

expressing this and other loveliness ....

for those who missed the prior post here's a print that shows indigo dyes and how they ranged from blue grays to light blues and also demonstrates a variety of weaving and dyeing techniques.

How many can you spot?

Indigo Kimono

#indigo # kimono #cats

I was looking for images of indigo dyed yukata when I came across this playful print a parody of social life when Tkyo was Edo which also shows some of the many ways indigo was used on clothing as kasuri weaves or resist or stencil dyed patterns. I can see at least 4 techniques in this print.
